Motivation Monday – Take Action and Get Things Done

piles of work

One of the reasons why we don’t like to go to work is because there seems to be so much we need to do. Endless deadlines that need to be met and we just want to throw our hands up and say “That’s it. I give up.”. Sometimes I feel very unmotivated because it doesn’t seem like I will ever get everything done on time as there are just so many tasks piled up.

However, I realized that it is likely because I don’t do everything right away. This “I will get to it later” attitude is the root cause of this problem. As I wait for everything to pile up, I become inefficient because part of my energy is spent worrying about how to complete the tasks instead of actually doing it.

I know I’m not alone because people I know always wait till the last minute to finish projects. For example, if the deadline is this Friday, most people will do it late Thursday night (if not on Friday) even if the task takes 15 minutes. This way of doing things has got to change. If we just do the 15 minute task right away, then we don’t need to think about it ever again. I bet that by waiting till Friday, we’ve spent 3-5 minutes of the week just thinking about the task.

So, let’s start taking action immediately and get things done as soon as possible. Once we don’t feel the frustration of having too much on our plate, we will indirectly be more motivated to work on Mondays, and perhaps this weekly piece can seize to exist.

Take Action.

Hey it’s actually one of my New Year’s Resolutions…don’t procrastinate and do things as soon as you think of it.

Calvin January 7, 2008 at 8:05 pm

That’s one of my resolutions too. It’s so hard to do sometimes since we are all lazy :)

You are right. And most of us will think and never take action. Most of us know exactly what to do in order to make our lives better, we just never start doing them.

Money Blue Book and Calvin: Good for you guys to make this your new year’s resolution. Taking action is actually one of the greatest thing you can do because it will help you get results with so many different things.

Ronald: It’s amazing how true what you just said is. Everyone just need to take action and do it right now.

There are ways for us to start getting things done. One of which I’ve posted on my blog. It is to write a daily to-do list. I am not sure who has tried it. I can guarantee if you keep writing a good to-do list, you will get most of your important task done.

Write a to-do list & paste it on your pc screen, now you are going to do it 😉

Ronald: I don’t know why but I thought I’ve responded to your comment already. I must be dreaming :) Oh well..

Edward: Maybe if you tape it over the screen then you have to do it first before you do anything else :)

^^not the kind of action the author was referring to^^

On a more serious note, transitioning from the idea phase to action steps would be a good blog post. Particularly how successful people moved from idea to action or motivated themselves would be an interesting read. I find myself hesitating and berating myself for not having faith in my abilities though that’s far from reality.

Totally agree with you on this. :) Dealing with things as they occur, not only saves us frustrations, but also time and energy. Action is so much better than over thinking.
