Why should I, as someone who is not responsible to get the W-2 out, have to go find the employer and wrangle one from them? When you are a freelancer and get multiple forms, if everyone else manages to get their W-2's and 1099's to you on time, and one does not, and you have not moved or changed your information, they should be penalized big time. I held off from doing my taxes (I usually try to get them out before Valentine's Day. This year, I mailed my taxes out on Monday the 16th. Today on the 18th of February, I get a W-2 in the mail from a company that I worked only a few days with. This was also a company that was slow to cut me a check in the first place. So do I have any legal recourse? And since I already sent my tax form in like the dutiful citizen I am, do I have to fill out another form for this or can I simply send a copy of my tax form with this latest W-2 attached and beg the IRS' forgiveness for the screwup from this company?
