How it works:

As the name suggests, The Finance Forums? is another personal finance discussion board.? A quick look at the topics for personal finance include:

  •

  • General Finance

  • Personal Loans
  • Debt
  • Mortgages
  • Real Estate
  • Credit Ratings
  • Credit Cards
  • Insurance
  • Banks
  • Investments
  • Pensions

As with any discussion board, the value is made up from the members of the community since they will ultimately be providing the content and guidance to others. ?I took a quite look at the stats:

Threads: 480, Posts: 2,509, Members: 1,050 (as of writing)

I would say that this is a pretty good sized community and further reading some of the posts indicate that there are many threads worth checking out.

I found a very unique idea about this forum, which is its revenue sharing plan.? The way it works is that you can put your google adsense id in your profile, and the threads you create will share revenue from the advertising (also adsense) that the site generates.

I am sure this was one of the main drivers of people registering with this forum, and I applaud the creativity since I have not seen anyone else do this.? So far, I would say that it is working since there are many posts and members in the forum.

Thoughts:

I did find some pictures of buttons on the front page that showed a bad link; otherwise the site was pretty clean.

The longevity of the idea of the revenue sharing plan will also be tested in this forum. ?It is my understanding that forums usually generate a very high page view but do not have a good click-through rate, which is important to adsense because you do not get paid until someone clicks on an ad.? So, it would be interesting to see whether or not the people who posts will actually get some revenue out of their efforts in posting. ?There is a big risk here because people might give up on the site if they initial intension was to post and make lots of money.

The other part is that I wonder what Google will think of this.? I know that Google will allow one id to have multiple sites, but I?? not sure if they will like the fact that one site will have thousands of different ids. ?Only time will tell.

Final words:

Overall, as with any discussion board, the final decision will boil down to the amount of posts and response of each thread.? So far, this website succeeds.
