The last book review I wrote was a long time ago, but when I was approached about one for The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur, I was really drawn by its title and happily agreed (it also helped that I wrote a post in the same week with a title with a similar theme – Toilet Train Yourself to Become a Personal Finance Expert).
A 25 Word Review
After reading through the book, let me start out by giving you a 25 word review of the book The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur is the only book I read from front to back without putting it down in between so far in my life. It was that good.
A Slightly Longer Version
When I first picked up the book, the first question I really wanted answer was “What is a toilet paper entrepreneur?” After the first chapter, I got my answer. The toilet paper entrepreneur (TPE he called it) was someone who might not have a ton of resources but get it done.
In Mike’s (author) mind, every entrepreneur needs to have beliefs, focus and action.
Beliefs
When I first started out I had this belief that entrepreneurs should do what they know, not what they want.
You need to love what you are doing! Even though you might know a great deal about a subject, that’s not enough for you to truly maximize your effectiveness. Only with passion will you make the necessary sacrifices and time commitments necessary for greatness!
Until you believe something to be absolutely true, just as you believe the sky is blue and the sun makes light, you won’t be able to realize it.
Just because you want to become a millionaire doesn’t mean you will take steps to achieve that goal. Believe that you will be, and then map out what’s needed to become one!
Focus
Look at where your business is headed, not where it is at this moment. Is your business in a spin? Give your attention to where you want to go, not what you are trying to avoid. There is no question about it – you get what you focus on, either good or bad.
It’s never about what’s happening but where it is heading. Always focus on what you need to do!
Action
When it comes to action there is only one lesson. Start now.
Do you have a business idea that you always wanted to start but haven’t? Never putting it in action is such a shame! Get going. Start that blog, open that store or start making that killer product. In fact, start today!
Money and Equity
Mike believes that it’s always good to start small and to try not getting funds at the beginning since most people will waste much, if not all of it without thought. Like one his story implies, if you only have 3 sheets left in the toilet, you will always find a way.
I can attest that it can truly be done and that not everything is as expensive as it seems. When I was reading the book and taking notes for the review, I wrote with a pen and notebook that I got for free at a recent trade show.
Final Thoughts
The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur was a great read. Through the many short stories within the book, I learned a great deal about why belief, focus and action was important to me. In fact, it made such an impression on me that I plan to start a new series to give books away (time permitting).
