Personal Finance Readers Saving Poll Results

Earlier, I asked the readers when they started saving for retirement here. It’s been a couple days since and here are the results!

  • Before my 20s (11%)
  • In my 20s (57%)
  • 30s (17%)
  • 40s (9%)
  • 50s (0%)
  • Still haven’t saved anything (6%)

I’d like to congratulate us because the vast majority of us started saving for retirement by their 30s (85%).  Furthermore, for the 6% of us that haven’t started yet, start now!

As far as savings goes, it will be what we live on when we retire.  So saving for retirement needs to be one of our biggest priorities!  This includes maxing out our 401k plans, IRAs, and also having some money set aside for retirement purposes.  There are many ways to do this and none of them can be deemed best.  Depending on our risk tolerance, we might want to buy stocks, or put it in a online savings account.  The key is to start saving (which most of us have) and keep it up.  Every little cent builds up and we will be wealthy in no time!

It can be a struggle managing your outgoings each month and you could be leading yourself into a serious debt. Get some debt advice to find out what debt solutions are best for you before it's too late.

I’m the norm! I really hope that more people will save more early since it’s so much easier!

Calvin: That’s a great wish. I hope that in the future when I put this poll up again, there will be more people who vote at the top choices.
