Would you take an airline offer of $400 dollars to re-schedule your flight?

I was on a flight with my boss from California to Georgia today, and the person at the ticket counter offered volunteers a $400 voucher since they over-booked the seats on the flight.

The bad part about this is that the next flight is flying out 4 hours later at another airport (45 minutes drive from where we were) and that they would not put us in first class. The other difference was that instead of arriving at 7pm, we will arrive at 11:30pm. Now, we have a 9:00am appointment with an important customer tomorrow but would you have taken the offer if you were my boss?

I know I would have.

I understand that work is my primary focus but we are talking about a $400 dollar voucher here. For someone like me who travels many times a year, that?? just as good as $400 after-tax dollars. I?? not sure if I?? really dialing for the dollars and cents here but who else would have taken the offer?

The cost of taking the offer is like this:
Getting the car back and paying for parking which cost $5, then driving to the other airport (gas and mileage on the car of around $5) and then wait another 4 hours in there. The other cost is getting in late but 11:30pm is not really that late.

tough choice. surely i would have done it if i was not on business. but if i was working then the expenses of traveloing are pretty high anyway.

Maybe a followup question would be whether or not you would keep the $400 dollar voucher if you decide to re-schedule and still claim the business expense on your company.

It seems like the voucher is the same idea as getting air miles but people’s opinion on this might differ.
