I got my suit back and saved $87.32 worth of money!

In the beginning of February, I came to Singapore for the first time ever during a business trip. With my month-old suit and all, I went to some sales calls which went pretty well. However, when I got back, I realized that I forgot to bring back my suit! I was pretty upset because of my lack of carelessness. However, being upset is not going to solve my particular situation at all and it was time to think how I can get my suit back.

Of course, I?? in the US and the suit is in Singapore, so there is no way I can get it back in person. So, I called the hotel, and after locating my suit, the room service department suggested to mail it back to me for $87.32 (I was hoping for free delivery service but that is obviously unrealistic). Now, my suit is worth more than $87.32, but this just seemed too much money. I asked them to hold it for me and I waited and waited for a chance to come back here. Today, I am finally in Singapore again and I got my suit back! $87.32 saved.

This was a really hard decision for me, since my suit was pretty new at the time and plus I don?? really know when I will be coming back to Singapore if ever. What ended up helping me make the decision was that a) I have extra suits that I can use for the time being and b) the price tag was rather high to ship it c) I can also ask them to ship it back to me later.
I must say that the hotel service was really good, since they kept it for me for close to 3 months. Another thing to praise about the service was that I emailed the duty manager that I was coming back a few days ago without even telling him what my confirmation or reservation code was. To much of my surprise, the person behind the counter told me that there is a suit waiting for me to be picked up when I arrived. During the same time, the duty manager came out to greet me and told me the suit will be sent to my room the very next morning and for me to give them a call when I wake up!

Overall, I’m very happy that in the end, I got the suit back without paying an arm and a leg for it to happen. The moral of the story though, is to evalute your tolerance, and then stretch it for maximum savings. In my case, I figured that I won’t go crazy if I didn’t have my suit for a while, so I decided to wait.
