wedding1.jpgIn one of my previous posts, I mentioned that we looked at having a wedding on a boat. At the time, I thought that it was outrageously expensive and would ruin our budget planning! I thought to myself that it was one of those things where someone (in this case, my fiancee) took you somewhere because they wanted to go but you did not. The price was so high that I almost got mad for even going. I know that it was absolutely not the right attitude, but I just could not help it! My fiancee also thought the price was kind of high, even though she clearly wished we could have our wedding there.

The price includes a very nice boat, which had a 100 person minimum requirement at $14,231.38 for the entire wedding. Maybe someone can tell me whether or not this is high, since I’m not so experience with weddings but here is the detailed quote.

Item Qty Rate Amount
Yacht 1 $3,337 $3,337
Docking - $250 $250
Menu - Seabass / Filet Mignon 100 $35.95 $3,595
Menu - Hors d’oeuvre passed on silver trays 100 $6.75 $675
Service Staff 4 $150 $600
Bar - Well 100 $21 $2,100
Bartenders 2 $150 $300
Linens 100 $2.40 $240
Entertainment (DJ) 1 $375 $375
Floral - $150 $150
Wedding Cake 100 $1.95 $195
Photographer 1 $395 $395
Minister 1 $200 $200
Coordinator 1 $250 $250
City Tax 100 $1.50 $150
City Permit - $130 $130
Gratuities - $650 $650
Sales Tax - 7.75% $639.38
Total $14,231.38

This is a tremendous amount of money! After some careful consideration though, I decided to tell my fianc? to call the company up and book a spot! I did however asked her to keep the total under $10,000.

I believe it can be under $10,000 because we really only want to invite about 50 people. This means that all the line items that have 100 beside it will be cut in half. We will also be looking at a smaller boat that does not have the 100 people minimum requirement, thereby cutting the Yacht price of $3,337 by a little bit more.

I also told my fiancee that I will be paying for the wedding. For those that are wondering why I’m willing to spend so much money on the it. I realized that my fiancee really wants to have a wedding on the boat and you can put no value to making someone you love happy, not to mention that this is a once in a lifetime event.

If that really includes everything than 10,000 wouldn’t be that bad. We paid around 8,000 in 99 for about 100 guests at a full sit down dinner (only one menu choice, chicken cordon bleu) with DJ and dancing and 2 hours of bar tab (beer, wine and soda–mixed drinks were pay as you go) plus the champagne. It also included the photoraphy (done by a talented amateur) my dress (Yankee Bill wore his dress uniform from the Army) and the church decorations, gratiuity for priest etc. This was in Upstate NY where things are much more reasonable than a metro area.

Of course, a person can spend much less too.

We have another appointment on Sunday and hopefully we will be able to get more of an idea.

The menu has 2 choices right now and of course it can be cut down too. The other thing is with the tab. Honestly, most people I know do not drink alcohol so we might not have a bar service which will save another $500-$1000.

Congrats on the future wedding. Hope your planning is not in vain. Lizzie and I are getting married tomorrow, but it is the second time each so we really did not want to go overboard (Lol). A wedding on a boat sounds like a smashing idea though.

Thanks. Congrats on your wedding tomorrow too! You must be a true blogger if your wedding is tomorrow and you are blogging/leaving comments on others today! :)

Hopefully your wife won’t get mad at you if you do the same thing tomorrow! :)

I am getting married soon too. We originally planned to invite only 100 or so people but the list kept on ballooning as our parents added more and more obscure relatives. I wrote a blog entry on how much we’re spending, too, and my fiance objected in the comments and said it’s not expensive.
