Some weeks ago, I spoke about some of the motivational benefits of staying busy. Apart from having no time to think and complain, one main reason is because staying busy gives you more chances to feed off your success!
It wasn’t long ago when the only event that occupies my time is my primary IT job. I remember working very long hours just because I had nothing else to do! When I look back at those grueling long hours without satisfaction, I realized that it was a mix of boredom and never changing environment that kept me from feeling motivated about my work.
Contrast that with today: I have my blogs, my job, all the different interactions with my wife, golf and my new exercise routine. These really makes me feel alive, which in itself is very motivating.
Another great motivation to have so many activities to do is that any success in any of them will make me feel good. For example, a visitor who contacts me and sends a word of encouragement on Money Ning not just motivate me to work harder on this blog but also on everything else!
Just yesterday, I was able to write many blog posts and also prepare for the festival of frugality because I’m excited about the launch of my brand new golf blog. In fact, I’m so excited that I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s work day because it’s a new day and I want to see if there is anyone who will start discovering my blog through Google’s search.
Don’t underestimate the power of cross encouragement between your own activities because you will be missing out on one of the best ways to motivate yourself. Why not try this? The only down side is so more things are done.
Today’s giveaway winner of $113.80 is commentator Free From Broke! Congratulations!

Did your wife take the money from the giveaway yet?
Mary: She hasn’t said either way so I’m still waiting. She hasn’t taken the money though. Keep your fingers crossed!
I definitely agree, though there’s definitely a happy medium that needs to be achieved. When I stay decently busy, time goes by faster, I get a lot done, and I feel very productive. But sometimes I overdo it and get too busy, and don’t spend any time decompressing (in fact, I got bronchitis two weeks ago because I had been going non-stop for too many weeks). My immune system just couldn’t handle the lack of rest. So while yes, I definitely like staying busy, staying TOO busy can stress you out and take a toll on your health. But I am glad you seem to have found a happy amount of busy for you
Emily: Sorry to hear about what happened… You can definitely become “too busy” and I hope that you can find your happy medium also
Take some rest… sometimes you need it (taking a break provides motivation too!)
sometimes doing an activity you really enjoy is as good as a rest. It gives you the chance to think about things away from the situation (i.e. work or a computer screen), like an outsiders perspective.
