Motivation Monday – Don’t Sell Monday Blues to Ourselves

by MoneyNing

It dawned on me today that Monday Blues is really something we sell to ourselves. Every time we complain about the end of the weekend or desire that it should really be the end of the week instead of the start, we are convincing ourselves even more that Monday is bad.

We tell ourselves that Monday is bad because we can’t sleep in. We cannot spend time with our family and we have to endure all the frustrations that come with work. We hear ourselves saying that we are tired but still have to solve everyone else’s problem when we don’t even think it’s our responsibilities to begin with. We tell ourselves all of this, and we should stop because we will train our minds to dislike Mondays more and more.

Every time we make negative comments about Monday, we are convincing ourselves that Monday is no good. We are in effect “selling” Monday Blues to ourselves.

So, if we want to be more motivated at the start of the week, we have to slowly reduce the negative comments we tell ourselves about Mondays. Eventually, this will eliminate our negativity about Monday. We have to re-train our brain to think positively about Monday and it needs to start immediately. Think of something we like about Mondays and keep it on the front of our minds. Surely, one day we will start liking the fresh air on Monday mornings and start off the work week running.

Stop selling ourselves Monday blues and start talking ourselves into Monday rules.

There is a band called ‘Happy Mondays’ maybe we should be listening to them on the way to work!

It’s defintely a mind thing. I think of it this way, if you’re on vacation and it falls on a Monday, you think nothing of it but if you have to work, it’s a whole another day.

Find a job that you personally love to do and from which you expect to get more than just $.
