raise.jpgMy fiancée finally got her well deserve raise today!  It came out to be a pretty good addition to our income, and we tried to spend it immediately.

What I mean is that we started thinking about where to best spend the raise to better build our financial future.  Here’s a list that we came up with:

  • She currently contributes 7 percent of her money to her 401k accounts and we can increase that (ex. 10%)
  • Double the automatic contributions she puts into the various savings account and CDs
  • She currently has some investments in her taxable account, and we can add an automatic savings plan to the mix with Zecco.
  • Automatic savings into her Roth IRA account
  • Fund my blog expenses (this is something I am just adding here, hopefully she reads this post and does something!)

Because we do not carry any debt at this point, the decision is much narrower than for the average person.  Some other good ways to use your raise are:

  • Pay off your credit card debt
  • Pay back your mortgage, or HELOC
  • Reduce your car loan debt
  • Pay off any debt

We would also be celebrating this by spending some money.  It is important to be happy about it because it is well deserved!
