Say What You Do and Do What You Say

Last week, I posted an article that talked about how much food we waste and that my fiancee and I always cook too much (or take too much left overs home when I’m over other people’s house). I also promised that I will refuse to take some food home if there were too many and that I will try to cook less.
I wanted to report back that I went to my uncle’s house last Sunday and had really good food! As usual, they had many dishes prepared but I suggested that we should leave some in the fridge because we couldn’t eat all of it which they accepted.
We still ended up with leftovers, but I’m happy to say that I politely asked for a reduced portions to take home since I will be travelling to New York, Canada and Texas the next 2 weeks and would not have time to finish them all.
We ended up taking home some food, but we finished it last night (Monday) already as opposed to the usual which is throwing them away. It was very tempting to take the delicious food my aunt made (especially the dessert as you can see in the photo). But I remembered about the article that I read and also wrote so instead of taking all the food home and throwing it away after too many days, I was able to stop myself.
When there is something we cannot seem to get ourselves to do, we should make the commitment to write it down (or tell the world like I did :)). It keeps us honest and helps us complete the task. Also, don’t forget to trust ourselves that we can do it because we certainly can!
