Hi just wanted to mention I visited Japan about a month before this post is dated and stayed in a comfort inn type of place–chain hotel.
My room was minuscule and I stayed for only two nights but the rate was comparable to the US–$45/ night. It was comfortable, and the breakfast spread you showed above was exactly what I got. It was delicious!!!
I think people don’t realize they can visit Japan easily enough if they can save up for the airfare. And there are lots of safe youth hostels also.
