Actually I think that it's ok to dream big. However, unless you have a clear action plan your dreams will never come true.

As far as that house is concerned, just wait several months and watch its value drop to half a million :-)

You just mixed the recipe for success and happiness! Dreaming big gives us a reason to get up in the morning (and to some people, could fill a void); while being happy with what we have helps us keep our feet on the ground and allows us to be satisfied with our blessings. Learning to appreciate what we have is one way for us to learn how to be happy.

I agree that it's important to do both, but do the appreciation and gratitude first. Dreaming from a place of lack isn't as effective. I also strongly agree with Neal's comment. I actually start with that first in my own life and with my clients. I ask, "What feelings do you desire? What experiences are most important for you?" Then, "What could you do or have that would bring those feelings and experiences to you?"

The WHAT and HOW are easier to figure out when the WHY is solidly in place.

Erica,
Thanks for sharing your real life story of manifesting what you desired!

Dreaming big is important. But a good question to ask is WHY we have our dreams. I've been trying to ask myself this. When my "why" is selfish, I try to move on. If my "why" is so I can be of service, I embrace it.

Its very hard to do this and I struggle with it all the time, but its the best answer I've found.

$800K for a two bedroom... sure sounds like California to me. My only advice to you is that real estate in such expensive markets is still well overpriced.

Okay, true story. After watching "The Secret", I hung a check on my mirror (real check, from my personal banking account) and made it out to myself for $1 million. I wrote in the memo field, AFTER TAXES.

A little more than a year later, I sold my business for $1.1 million. That check pulled me through some tough times, too.

Does doing that mean I could just sit back and suddenly my business would be worth $1 million? No, of course not. I had to work my butt off. But that check gave me an incentive. I wasn't going to give up until I had that million dollars. And it worked.

I find the Law of Attraction to work best on something you want where money is blocking you. I downloaded the "Attract a new car" series from Joe Vitale and am now using it to work out my fears about buying a house. But I am still happy to rent in this market, and am happy too that I've helped convince over 1,000 people to not buy a house. Including you! ;)

Wait it out, and be patient. If you want to do something productive toward buying a house that's not money-related, use EFT to tap out your fears. (That's what "Attract a new car" teaches you.) EFT (also NLP) will also help you figure out where the desire to buy a house comes from. In my case, it was because I thought my parents wouldn't consider me successful unless I owned a house. After I discovered this, I talked it out with them and my dad bluntly said he thinks I would be crazy to buy a house. Now I don't really have the urge to buy any more!
