Nice post! There really are so many free (or very inexpensive) ways to have fun. It is a shame that most adults don't take advantage of these.

I used to ride my bike for hours and then have fun sleep overs with my friends and we used to listen to our favorite pop stars. Those were the best days of my life.

It's funny that you mentioned sports. When we were young, one out of ten of us would have a basketball and we play. When we became adults, everyone bought a basketball and we still play. The difference? None because we only need one ball! It's exactly the same, except that Costco is much happier with our money.

I often find that the kids that had to work for everything tend to grow up happier and more "stress resistant", so in that sense, working as a kid will never be a bad thing.

It's great that you and your friends were able to make things fun though. I still remember one time when I borrowed my mom's lawnmower to cut grass for someone. The machine was so heavy my mom ended up coming to help. She did all the work while I got $5. (I love you mom!)

Emma really wanted to get Wii resort. But then, she wanted to get the Wii fit too and we never even got a chance to play it even though she borrowed it from a friend for two weeks!

When we were kids, we also had a lot of fun working together. When doing chores with a sibling or friend, we could joke around, challenge each other, etc. Even though we grew up in a situation where we had to work more than many kids, we made it fun.

My husband and I keep this going by doing lots of our chores together rather than individually.

I love the video games comment. My hubby and I always play the Wii. We love the new Wii resort. Actually I love it because that's the only game I can beat him at. We spent something like $70 with the extra motion plus but we already spent many, many hours stuck to the TV!
