I recently changed cell phone carriers from T-Mobile to Cingular and the only reason was because doing this will save me money! Let me explain:
Once my contract from T-Mobile was up, I was free to either stay with T-Mobile go to another carrier. I asked around and I found a store that was willing to share their commission with me if I switched to Cingular using them. Everything is sort of complicated but the result is listed below by changing my two phone family plan to Cingular:
Received:
1. Sony Ericsson W810i
2. Samsung C330
3. Free car chargers for both phones
4. Desktop mini speakers for the W810i
5. $250 in Cingular Visa Rebate cards ($50 for Sony Ericsson, $100 for the Samsung C330, and $100 for joining Cingular while having AT&T high speed internet)
Paid up front:
1. $156.93 (The price of the two phones plus tax minus $200)
I sold the Samsung C330 w/ its car charger for $172.38 on Ebay and let my girlfriend use the Sony Ericsson W810i so the end result was that I got $165.45 + a new phone, car charger and desktop mini-speakers)
I looked on Ebay and I could have sold the Sony Ericsson phone for $200+ if I really wanted to for even more cash.
With a little work (filling out the rebate forms, selling the phone on Ebay), you can do this too as long as you are not on contract with any carrier right now!
Note that I was offered $450 dollars from another store if I wanted to stay with T-Mobile for the two lines. The catch was that I had to change phone numbers which I didn?? want to.

Great stuff! I never knew this and would seriously look into doing this since I have used the same cell phone company for years!
I have done this for years! I never realized that there are people that did not know about this. They started with offering free phones, then now it’s cash rebates. Pretty soon they will offer free plans or something. I wonder how they make money!
