All these "ENERGY SAVING" or "WATER SAVING" things are weird because you have to keep it for a least 20-30 years before it pays you back.

Wallpaper, probably the quickest upgrade. Changes the feel of a bathroom overnight... "Measuring and then determining exact placement on the wall" are most tedious, true.

You just have to be realistic about the time it will take and you skill level before you start a project. In older homes simple projects tend to grow to be bigger projects before you are done.
							BTW I love your blog!

Great videos and DIY step by step books are available thru your library :)
They have led me thru tile setting, sheet rocking/taping/spraying, and some cabinetry - all new skills for me. Any my entire house was handpainted by me! If a 50 something yr old woman can learn new skills, you can to :) The library videos were a GREAT help!!! The mini glass tiles on my bathroom cabinet top turned out fantastic!

I find that wallpaper is very dependent on the environment that you are in. High humidity areas should avoid wallpaper if possible, unless of course you are willing to change it often.

I find wallpapers nicer when they are new and when they are used for a small room though.

I vote for painting over wallpapering. In fact the thought of wallpaper has made me cringe ever since I removed 6 layers of it for my mom. It was really bad.

My husband replaced a toilet once. It was hard work and he struggled with it for hours. In the end he figured it out though and he told me that it was worth it (I thought it was all along :)).

I also paint the house and I find that the more I paint, the better and faster I become so my suggestion would be to not be afraid!
