The response to the gas gift card giveaway was simply amazing. If you haven’t joined yet, I suggest you go over there and give yourself a chance to win a free $50 gas gift card! The winner will be announced on August 18th, 2008!

Some readers also asked where the gift cards come from so I will share with everyone here. The gas gift cards come courtesy of my credit card reward points. As a salesperson, I have a lot of travel expenses which allowed me to rack up a ton of reward points. So I figured I will just give them away to my loyal readers!

Almost all credit cards are offering reward points now. As long as you pay the balance off every month, using a credit card that gives rewards for gas purchases is like getting a discount every time we are at the pump!

Here are a few great gas rewards card that I recommend. I have been taking advantage of this for years, you should too!

Discover Open Road(SM) Credit Card
Many people also use this great card for gas purchases. On top of no annual fees, this card gives you 5% cash back on the first $100 in combined gas and auto maintenance purchases each month. I even know some people who combine this card with other credit cards to maximum their rewards.

Note that some merchants do not take discover cards as payment but all gas stations do so there is no problem using the Discover Open Road Credit Card if the purpose is to get discounts on gas!

Chase PerfectCard Credit Card
Chase really has some nice cash back cards. The Chase PerfectCard Mastercard offers 6% cash back on the first 90 days of gas purchases, then 3% thereafter. As with other cards, the rewards are automatic so the discounts are directly credited to the statement!

Mastercards are also the most widely accepted credit card so the Chase PerfectCard Mastercard is a great way to get discounts on all your gas purchases!

I’ve been using the Costco amex card for ages. It’s really the best card out there. I routinely get cheaper gas at the costco pump and they don’t accept any other credit card so I get double the savings.

The fact that you need a costco membership is probably a roadblock but it’s worth it in my opinion on just gas alone!

I signed up for the Discover Open Road card not knowing that there is a $100 limit on the rewards.

Now I pretty much just use it for 2 tanks of gas and then use my other cards. It’s really quite inconvenient but it will do for now until I find another one.

The SimplyCash and PerfectCard cards are interesting though.

That’s awesome, I need to start doing that with my rewards.

There are a lot of people that just don’t think about this. Those people really have no idea how much money they are losing by not looking into rewards for their cards IMHO.

    Those are some nice cards.
