Founded in 1997, the retailer first sold surplus inventories at below wholesale prices (according to them, at 57% off suggested retail price) and selling them online under the name D2: Discounts Direct. In 1999, it changed its name to Overstock.com and also started selling new merchandise. In 2002, it went public and due to its early success, the company’s stock price went as high as $77 (from an initial price of $12), thanks in part to its simple pricing strategies like $2.95 shipping for any sized orders.

The retailer is a major player in the industry, especially the online space even though you don’t hear about it much. While it’s not as successful as Amazon.com, this retailer can hold its own and offers great discounts, especially if you use the Overstock coupon listed above.
