For dads who have retired from the military, it becomes a challenging situation when they have to consider re-settling themselves into a civilian life. Quite a few Veterans take up assignments in military related fields where they already have a good familiarity level. However, there are a variety of other fields offering opportunities for gainful employment. Among these, franchising opportunities are an attractive avenue for military dads and Veterans.
Basically, a military person is trained to operate within a certain set of rules and regulations. At the same time, within the given rules, he is in a position to operate with total independence and run his show with discipline, commitment and efficiency. This is exactly what is required to run a franchise operation as well. Therefore, military dads can handle a franchise business quite successfully if a suitable option comes their way.
Organizing start-up funding for a franchise is the primary hurdle for a Veteran who does not have surplus resources of his own to invest in the business. To solve the funding issues for military Veterans, the International Franchise Association (IFA) in the United States has established a dedicated program that brings together over three hundred and fifty franchises on a common platform, called “VetFran” to create a practical business opportunity for Veterans. Some of these franchises also waive the franchise fee or royalty for the Veterans.
The funding options made available by VetFran for the military Veteran dads are as follows:
- VetFran Business Grant Fund: This program provides financial grants and aid for business development and technical training and assistance of the Veteran franchisee members of the VetFran.
- Veterans Scholarship Program: This program provides annual scholarships of $2,500 to selected Veterans for supporting their further education and training in entrepreneurship.
- Small Business Association (SBA) “Patriot Express:” This program accepts applications from the Veterans for extending business loans for their new business ventures. This program covers franchise businesses, and even other business options. It can grant loans up to half a million dollars to the veterans, depending upon their business project and funding requirements.
Even the banks are cooperative in granting loans to the Veterans for a franchise business if they find the franchise opportunity to be reliable and viable. Usually, the proven track record of a Veteran is a good assurance for the bank to believe in his commitment as an entrepreneur in his new franchise venture.
Funding opportunities for military Veteran dads are available and success is assured if they are willing to put their mind to the business and run it with the same dedication that they have displayed in their past military career. If you are a Veteran (or know someone who is) and looking for career opportunities, give franchising serious consideration.
