We can fault our politicians for all the bailouts and missteps over the years all we want but there is still no question that the government played a huge role in the United States becoming one of (if not the) most powerful nation in the world.
Through years of sound policies, the U.S. enjoys:
- Being the home of the most multinational corporations
- A thriving environment for entrepreneurs
- One of the highest standards of living for the average resident
- One of the safest place to live in throughout the entire planet
- Too many to list, really.
Having said that, there is no question that up keeping all that’s good is getting harder and harder for the nation. Our debt is increasing at an dangerously high rate with no signs of slowing. Our currency is controlled by a foreign country (ex. China) as much as ourselves, and the average household is working the highest amount of hours in addition to having the highest amount of debt in our history just to fuel our own spending.
We need to think long term and it needs to start now. Every Friday for the next seven weeks (more if need be), I will be presenting one area that I believe can help not only the country as a whole but everyone living in this wonderful place we call home. These opportunity for improvement are meant as a starting point of discussion and I welcome disagreements with the end goal of further understanding moving forward.
I will be updating this page with links to the articles published each week so stay tuned.

This should be an exciting series and I can’t wait for some healthy dialoge.
A quote from a popular radio host:

I, too, look forward to the dialog. My wife and I were just this morning discussing the state of affairs with our government. With career politicians and politics becoming a family affair, we feel America has become what we tried to escape some 230 years ago. It wouldn’t be hard to make the argument that our government no longer exist to support the people, but it is now the other way around.
Now this should be interesting.
(I’m busy debating internally whether I agree with your statement that “Through years of sound policies, the U.S. enjoys…”)
We do live in a great nation and America will continue to be successful. However, some of the mistakes that were made over the past few decades that have put this country in a deep recession will take years to fix. There simply is no quick fix and we all need to realize that.
But, I agree with your thought, that we can all be more proactive in planning for the future. One area that I think hardly gets mentioned is the worldwide scarcity of water. Oil and energy conservation are at the forefront of most dinner table conversations but water supply should be as well. Worldwide water shortages are apparent right now and will be significant in the future, if we don’t do something about it.
Well, I love America, too and it’s clear that you do from your post. Despite our economic troubles I still believe that the US can lead and get out of its mess. I do wonder about America being the safest place on the planet. I would check statistics for that one. I think you’re only insurance against crime in the US is living in some rural part of the country. Having lived in several major metropolitan cities in the US, I wouldn’t characterize it as being the “safest” place on the place.
